The cafe on the London / southbound side is way better than the Pumpkin place.

Go to the coffee stand on the London platform. Much better than Pumpkin.

If going to Leicester, the 'not via Birmingham' ticket is cheaper, and usually gets you to Leicester at the exact same time.

If you're getting picked up, you're better off waiting by the car park entrance on the main road. At peak hours, there's no room for cars!
